House Tour - Scoring Second Hand

I wanted to display some items around the house that I have bought or been given second-hand. I believe that buying second-hand is an important form of recycling. It means that there is barely anything new in my house... when we purchase things, we are telling corporations that we support these products and want more. Often these products are made in other regions of the world, and we don't know how those workers are always being treated. Also, we are not using any more materials. We are re-using what already exists. I encourage you to go thrift. You have to know what you're looking for, be very picky about quality, and it may take longer to find just what you're looking for, but it's possible. Take a look!

Our Two Couches bought for $90 (for both) off craigslist. The throw pillows were bought from Thrift stores for a couple dollars each.

The coffee table was handed down to us by a friend of my mother. The photo album was bought for $5 from a thrift store and the vintage looking suitcase for $8.
The end tables and this cute 3-tiered stand were also hand-me downs. The black photo frame and vintage circular box were bought second hand.
Recliner was hand-me down.

This is Beans' basket. I bought it for storage purposes, but we quickly became fond of it, and now it sits by the window so he can snuggle in there and watch the world...

This table was hand-me-down, the chairs we picked up for free, and the salt and pepper shakers and candlebra were bought from thrift stores.
This futon was $50 from St. Vincent De Paul. They even delivered it for us. It's hardy, comfy and has a nice wood frame, instead of those metal ones.
This is my favourite. I bought this large photograph from a Salvation Army while visiting my parents on the Lower Mainland. It took some time to get it over here, but now it sits in the bedroom. It brings peace and calm into there, and reminds me of beautiful summer evenings at the pier.
I purchased this funky toilet paper holder for $3.

These coffee photos hang by the kitchen. I got them for $4 all together from Value Village. (Excuse the shiny reflection)
I searched for a long time for a nice wall clock. They were either not my style, or too much for second-hand. Finally I found this one, vintage, and only $6.
This neat table was a also a part of the set we got handed down to us.

These throw pillows on the bed were from Value Village. Look out for my before and after bedroom article... coming once I finish it. They'll be more!

So go on, get out there, and explore craigslist, garage sales, and thrifts. Happy hunting!
